Snakes are incredible creatures. They have been revered, feared, worshiped, used in rituals, their venom used to create powerful medicines and homeopathic remedies.
Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, was the "protecting genius" of his people, the Toltecs. The caduceus, the symbol of the god Hermes' staff entwined with two serpents is still the primary symbol of doctors of western medicine. Snakes are part of Chinese astrology and in ancient Egypt the snake represented a high level of wisdom and understanding.
