"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
Anatole France
Hello Everyone! This week we'll have the pleasure of hearing from the Mongoose Council, thanks to Siobhan requesting we communicate with them.
Mongooses (yes, that's the correct plural) have some very special qualities including a modified receptor that prevents snake venom from binding and poisoning them. They don't actually eat snakes, preferring insects, lizards, birds and rodents.
The ancient Babylonians worshiped Ningirama, a magic deity invoked against serpents. Buddhist and Hindu religions include mongooses as bringers of good luck. As a child, I always loved Rudyard Kipling's story of the heroic Riki Tiki Tavi who saved his family from two cobras intent on killing them. Mongooses have been pets and friends of many humans throughout millennia.
Join us on Wednesday/Thursday for this lovely conversation.
