"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
Anatole France
Conifers are some of the oldest trees on the planet. Fossil records go back 300 million years and they survived the extinction of the dinosaurs. Their forests are the largest carbon sink on Earth.
Conifers are the world's tallest, thickest, largest, and oldest living trees. They are critically important ecologically. As a "friend" to humans, they have provided shelter, paper, medicine and food. Of course, they provide all of that (except paper) to countless wildlife, bird and insect species.
Pine trees and other conifers have been honored, revered and worshiped by many cultures. Unfortunately, some species have been introduced in Africa and Australia for human use, becoming invasive and destructive to native species.
