"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
Anatole France
The amazing Hippos will join us this week. There are only two hippos in their genus. Pygmy hippos and the "modern" Hippo. Hippopotamus is Greek for "river horse." That's humorous as I've never seen a horse act like a hippo or a hippo like a horse. Interestingly, they share a common ancestor with cetaceans. Hippos are water-loving herbivores, who do come out to forage in the evening and early morning. They secrete their own sunscreen but spend the heat of the day in water. Hippos can be more aggressive than lions and after mosquitos, are responsible for the most human deaths in Africa.
Who are these unique beings? What do they have to share with us?
Join us and find out.
