"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
Anatole France
Good day! I was just contacted by the Betta Council asking to join us for our session this week. Beautiful Bettas, also known as Siamese Fighting Fish have been kept as prized pets for hundreds of years. They are hardy freshwater fish and live in different kinds of water in Southeast Asia, including the living in shallow rice patties. Because the waters they live in may be brackish and lacking in oxygen, Bettas developed a lung-like labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe air at the surface.
Males perform an elaborate "nuptial embrace" of females so she releases her eggs. He then fertilizes them and makes sure each tiny egg is held safely in a bubble nest. He protects and cares for his young until they hatch.
Who are these beautiful fish who have spent so much time living with humans? Join us this week and find out.
