Greetings! This week we'll have the honor of hearing from the Tuna Council. Tuna are saltwater fish in the mackerel family. They range in size from the Bullet Tuna, "50 cm or 14 lb up to the Atlantic bluefin tuna, max length: 4.6 m or 15 ft, weight: 684 kg or 1,508 lb, which averages 2 m (6.6 ft) and is believed to live up to 50 years. A fast predator, the Yellowfin is capable of speeds of up to 75 km/h (47 mph)."
Here's another interesting fact, Tuna are only one of three species that can maintain a body temperature higher than that of the surrounding ocean. Although there are quite a few types of Tuna, the Bluefin is highly endangered by overfishing and climate change, warming the oceans is threatening all Tuna.
What do these sleek, beautiful fish have to teach us? Join us and find out.
